Shore Staff
Shore Staff facilitate our rental operations and support lessons, tours & events. Toronto SUP & Kayak is a recognised Paddle Canada School and provides a generous Staff Mentorship Program to facilitate skills development and Paddle Canada accreditations, including Instructor Certification courses. The Shore Staff position is an entry-level on-land position with opportunities for growth - moving upward into new postions year upon year. If you are interested in a career in recreational paddling, including guiding and instructing, this position is a great way to get started.
Please note: This position is physically demanding. Candidates must be capable of carrying paddleboards and fairly heavy kayaks with assistance. Toronto SUP & Kayak is located on a busy public beach with limited shelter. Staff are required to dress appropriately for weather conditions and are expected to work outdoors for the duration of their shift.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Responding to customer inquiries & providing information about our company and services.
- Assisting customers with reservations in-person and over the phone.
- Greeting customers as they arrive, providing on-shore safety briefings and ensuring that customers have all of the required safety equipment.
- Carrying SUPs and kayaks with assistance.
- Assisting instructors and guides with set-up and break-down of equipment for lessons and tours.
- Cleaning SUPs and kayaks between rentals and examining vessels for damage or missing components.
- Assisting with start-of-day opening procedures & site set-up and/or end-of-day tear down and pack-up.
- Keeping our premises and equipment clean and organized.
- Assist with digital and social media promotions.
- Utilizing booking software and point-of-sale systems.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
We are seeking candidates who have the following qualifications:
- Positive and friendly attitude with a strong work ethic.
- Enthusiastic about learning, participating in and promoting recreational paddlesports.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Strong swimming skills.
- Enjoys spending lots of time outdoors.
- Able to carry paddleboards and kayaks with assistance and perform other physically demanding tasks.
- First Aid or Lifeguard Certification (If you do not have a valid First-Aid certification you will be required to get your First Aid certification prior to your first shift if accepted for the position).
- Paddle Canada accreditations are not required, but an asset.
Schedule
Toronto SUP & Kayak is open to the public from June 1st to September 30th each season, with Shore Staff positions beginning, June 1st, June 15th and July 1st.
Full-Time & Part-Time positions are currently available.
